Outdoor Space

Deck, Patio, or both for your new Outdoor Space?

A deck looks over the landscape while a patio sits within the landscape.  So why not choose both? A combination outdoor space can make a small yard seem larger and can make an awkward space usable all it takes is a little planning and imagination!

When starting your project, you will want to consider your budget, because this will determine the size of the project and material options.  Typically, your outdoor living space should not overshadow your main home.  A good design will seem like it was part of the existing house all along.  The next things to consider should be the purpose and function.  Do you entertain, dine al fresco, want an outdoor family room, or all of the above? Whether you are working with a designer or not, these are some good basic principles to begin with.

We mentioned materials earlier and budget does dictate material choice however so does lifestyle.  Azek, for example, has a 30-year limited lifetime warranty on their composite deck boards, and a 10-year limited warranty on their composite pavers.  Composite products require very little maintenance, freeing you up to enjoy the outdoors! Plus, the Azek deck board and paver colors complement each other brilliantly.  They also have composite railing systems.  The combination of these mixed materials produces some of the most incredible back yard designs and living spaces.

Another thing you should factor in your budget would be lighting and even the luxury of a below deck rain water diversion system.  When it comes to both your patio and deck it is better to have the lighting installed during the initial building process rather than after your project is built.  It will end up costing you more to do it as an afterthought.  A well-lit area is not only beautiful but it’s also safe and the lighting options available are just terrific.  A rain water diversion system does exactly what it says, it diverts the rain water.  This is installed under the deck and makes the underbelly of the deck dry and useable for entertaining.  Adding a ceiling and ceiling fan can whip this space into a wonderful private seating area.

Other terrific ideas include a built-in kitchen for the consummate entertainer, or a brick oven for the chef.  Fireplaces, fire pits and built-in seating are popular too.

No matter where you are in your planning stages we can help guide you through the entire build process for your new outdoor space.  At Cedarbrook it is our goal to exceed your expectations and deliver an amazing product.  Call today to arrange a free consultation 301-703-8728.

Talk to the Pro Deck Builders

I recently had a screened in porch built by Cedarbrook, and could not have been happier with my choice. During the estimate stage, Mike was far and away the most knowledgeable and creative of the people I interviewed. The craftsmanship was superior and the crew was very personable. The project was completed on budget and within the time period targeted. I would highly recommend Cedarbrook to anyone contemplating an outdoor project.
